The number one reason to make sure you have your teeth cleaned twice a year is to prevent oral cancer. Every day someone in the United States dies from oral cancer, according to The Oral Cancer Foundation. This year nearly 37,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal cancer. Early detection is the key to survival. Regular exams and cleanings help increase your odds of prevention or early detection.


The second reason for regular exams and cleanings is prevention of gum disease. Early treatment of gum disease is key to a successful management of damage. Advanced stages of gum disease can lead to tooth loss. Health gums and bone is required to hold your teeth in place. Gum disease is an infection of the gum tissue and bone.


The third reason for having regular exams and cleanings is early detection of dental problems. A small cavity is a lot easier and less expensive to repair than waiting until the tooth is consumed with decay or you are in pain.


Fourth reason for regular exams and cleanings is to prevent bad breath. Everyone at one time or another has experienced someone with bad breath. Bad breath or halitosis may be caused by dental problems. Regular exams and cleanings will ensure you are performing good dental hygiene at home and early detection of dental problems.
